darkly you seek yourself....

Listening to the lastest RRPR Ross mentions Through A Glass Darkly (Delta Green Scenario I do beleave), been hearing this term thown around more latly and was wondering if anyone knows of it's origin. I know of it from a Clutch lyric "As through a glass, darkly you seek yourself." I also know of the 1961 movie. Wondering if the movie is it's origin or if it dates back farter than that. Any ideas?

Of course, Phil Dick's novel A Scanner Darkly is  the best exegesis of Paul's analogy in a modern cultural setting.

Figured it was biblical, mythical, or political. Neil Fallon’s lyrics are almost always a combination of the three. He goes on to mention Yggdrasil, the world tree from Norse mythology later in the song so my search was leading me in that direction. Thanks for the clarification guys.
