« on: February 14, 2010, 07:55:07 PM »
One of my players is bent on world domination in D&D.he worships nurrel and keeps knocking out random people, taking them to a remote area an tortures them.
he tells me he is gona take over the world.
he made friends with an NPC cleric of nurrel and they are planning together.

I am letting him do this is that a good idea?

Might want to revise your post and add a LOT more information than just that.

Well, taking over the world is really difficult, so I think it depends on specific details, so as seems to be the consensus, maybe with more information...

No
you can let him try but in the end he will fail in some way. I ran an epic level campaing where the players had lost their deathgrip on their kingdom and had to deal with the fallout that went realy well till I got sick of the combat. Epic 3.5 takes to much time.

How is killing random people going to lead to taking over the world?  If you want to pursue the plotline with the player, have them hash out a reasonable plan on how this world work.

Who the fuck is nurrel? I'm assuming you misspelled an actual god as I've never seen a D&D god named Nurrel and google tells me nothing.

Well if he says the dark gods name appropriatly it makes the god stronger. And even a DnD nerd knows not to do that!

Sort of just sounds like the player is antisocial.
Pinky and the Brain never used torturing people, and if they did it was only one time and it didn't work.

How are the other players responding to this?
I wish I was Tom.

Granted, you are now Tom.

in the group there are only 2 PCs and the one bent on world domination is the only constant player
the other one switches between one of my 2 brothers  they can never decide who will play permanetly so they share one charator :( and that charactor is just as evil as they are
and is happy to help them

That certainly doesn't mean it is a good plan...

But anyway, if you are cool with running that, and the other player(s) likes the idea, I would say, by all means, make that the story, their quest to take over the world (just make sure it is a duly difficult task).

he says he has his whole conquest planed out

In other words, he has your whole campaign planned out.

Are you willing to let a player determine the course of the adventure? If so, sure, have fun. On the other hand, if you have a story arc you want to actually run the characters through as opposed to letting them sandbox, then this dude is death not only to your storyline, but also to your ability to direct and control the campaign.
