Crap. Now there might actually be something on twitter that I care to follow. I've successfully avoided it for so long...

Careful, those are tattooed tears. One for every man he has killed. Well for every PC he has killed.

Ran Lover in the Ice for some people on Sunday. Was running long so sort of squashed the big confrontation into the house with the students instead of the dorm/high school ending.

Everyone had a good time although there was a few comments from the players alone the lines of, "this is pretty disturbing and you backed this as a kickstater, what is wrong with you?" Could not resist having one PC get force fed a seeder organ by the Amanta which drove the player insane. The action did put the Amanta in the line of fire of the other players and they made quickish work of it. They are suppose to be smarter than that but was trying to wrap up the game and so used a bit of GM fiat.

We used COC and I could not resist running the Green Box variant as outlined in the original pod cast. The scene of the players working through the boxes they know are basically live hand grenades was too good to pass up. I did sprinkle some boxes that contained elements from two games I am working on, not that these will be connected but so the players will recognize them when they play them in the future.

Another good scenario from Caleb and well worth the backing on kickstarter.

I'm glad your group had fun! Sorry if they think you're a perv now  :o

I get a lot of comments like that about Lover in the Ice (disturbing etc). I don't think they're unfounded criticisms, but I'm not sure I entirely understand them. I think that probably is for another thread though.

Anyway, thanks a lot for playing the game. I hope you enjoy the other stuff as it comes out.

Honestly, if someone criticizes CoC for being disturbing, they want to play another game.

One of my great regrets is that I could not back the kickstarter. Also I think this discussion has produced yet another good answer as to why Caleb would not want his face associated with his scenarios.

As I am sure is clear to everyone the core of Lover has quite a bit of sexual violence in it which is closer to peoples actual fears than the the cosmic or pulpy horror you get in a lot of COC games. Take Bryson Springs for example. When I ran that I had a character pulled off into space by one of the fishers. No fun but of course not real while what occurs in Lover maybe just too close to reality for some people.

I will say I was thinking of inviting a female friend who I know plays COC but I had not personally played with before to play in the game but ultimately decided against it. I think she will be a very good player and the guys I normally play with are pretty mature but it just seemed like there was a possibility that everyone could get very uncomfortable and I just did chickened out and decided I was not going to extend the invite. I sort of regret that actually but it just seemed like a bit step for the first game with a number of folks she did not know.

I do think it is a very well written scenario and not gratuitous but it is by its very nature going to be a lot more disturbing to most folks than Calebs other work.
