Ah, yes, Darkplace. I remember when that was on Scifi channel. I think I saw an interview with the guy who plays 'Rick' (can't remember if they used their real names or not...).

If I recall correctly, this was pretty much a home-made series. I think I watched about 5 episodes of it.

Matthew Holness is the person who played Garth Marenghi in Darkplace. He also produced alongside Richard Ayoade who played Dean Learner in the series.

Lol, couldn't quite remember who all was who. Was a really strange show.

XD, read the wiki. I guess it was a 'low budget film.' It definitely had the feel of a 'home-made' thing going there, though.

Either way, the show was an interesting experience.

Because these are the same people who watch Power Rangers in their twenties and take the storyline 100% seriously.  I lived with someone like that my 3rd year of college.

I think I said it in the GRIMDARK pokemon thread, but this is just like the "Welcome to the XMFL" campaign jumpstart in Monsters.

If your adaptation of a cartoon made for foreign children features mindblowing deconstruction of the subject matter and other depressing shit, suddenly you have artistic legitimacy. This is the same reason the live-action Dragonball movie was such a powerful and much-lauded cultural sensation.

...Right?

Wow that was really grim, and really dark... it's like the creators are trying to send a message about Pokemon to our youth...

Apokelypse.... I think there should be some kind of meme dedicated to this type of thing, you know in which happy go lucky everyday things are made as angsty, grim, and dark as possible. That would be a big hit on the internets...

I think that one's already been played out.  For some reason, I have a feeling that this whole video started out with someone writing out "Apokelipse" and getting a "genius idea."

Panda

Whenever someone else in my group runs a game, that (or Courage Wolf) is going to be my monster.

WWII footage

Old footage + Mellow Guitar Licks = Instant Class.  That said, that was a pretty cool piece of film.

I'm surprised at how clear the footage from the gun cameras was.

I also spent way too much of the video trying to figure out what each plane was in each clip.

Mesmerizing video, to say the least.

The planes with the cameras are probably P-51 Mustangs and they are flying over Japan in May-June 1945. http://www.metafilter.com/95938/Hauntingly-Calm
