First Blood anyone?

Dirty World or even Killsplosion game fodder I think, maybe even street level Wild Talents or Call of Cthulhu with some work.

The latest Radiolab had an interesting segment on automated stock trading, and the resulting race to minimize delay of communications between trading centers.  Seemed immediately pertinent to a world like Eclipse Phase, where you might have AGIs handling most share-trading transactions, coupled with extremely long communication delays between various habitats.

The shutting off of street lights to actively reshape a city; it feels like it could have occult significance in an urban fantasy game like Unkown Armies.

I've been following HFT - altho not as closely as I should have been - for the past six years. This is the best post that I (via Ross) have seen on the strangeness of HFT: http://www.metafilter.com/94516/High-frequency-trading-crop-circles

Check this out: http://news.yahoo.com/spy-camera-robot-penguins-infiltrate-bird-colonies-211005569.html

Science is sending robots dressed like penguins into their colonies, in addition to cameras hidden in ice and other objects. If we're doing this to penguins, imagine what more advanced species could to us.

Quote
The RockhopperCam is particularly impressive. The bipedal penguin-bot features 20 degrees of freedom of movement and gyro/accelerometer sensors. It can waddle over challenging terrain and pick itself up if it falls over. The producers say it was so realistic, some of the penguins accepted it as part of their colony.

A fluffy ChickCam did double-duty as a camera disguise and as a way to keep the camera from freezing. The production team even used a remote-controlled underwater penguin camera capable of diving down to 300 feet.

My first thought was Call of Cthulhu but this could be a really cool one for kids, like Monsters and Other Childish Things. I'm going to work it into my Wild Talents game.

Is it sad that I get most of my news from this thread?

Yes, build yourself a Google Reader subscription list. ;)

I recommend: The Browser, Archaeology Magazine, Slate, Salon, Wired, Ars Technica as a start.

To be honest, Ross and I started this thread because we exchange articles and other internet things all the time to use as fodder. Also, I read an insane amount of news items everyday, and since I don't have time to game anymore, I just dump 1/1,000th of the stuff I find interesting.
