Quick Disclaimer- This topic and attached text is ripped directly from a post on Reddit. I just wanted to share it and see how you guys felt about it. Personally I've learned that the "Yes, but" approach is better than the big fat NO but lets see how this pans out. Its almost straight out of an AB3 rant. So without further ado...

Quote
So I've been with a few rpg groups and one had this binder called The Big Book of No! It was full of rules that disallowed certain behaviors or actions from their games. The GM received it from his previous group an added to it. I received a copy just like he did and I've been adding to it as well.

I guess I'm wondering, does anyone else have something similar? Or if your group has to lay down rules that disallow actions and behaviors, both as players and as characters? Please share.

How about: "Things I am generally advised against repeating in RPGs..." as an alternative title.

My players are generally advised against...

... giving demon possessed magic stones to an elder vampire in command of a blood magic coven.

... mocking NPC guards through a security door when said guards have access to security door penetrating bullets.

... getting into a grappling struggle with a secret agent when another PC already has a shotgun trained on the guy.

... forgetting the square/cubed rule of physics in a "real world" physics game.

My players are generally advised against...

... telling NPC suspects details of a murder in a game where they play cops.

... and shapeshifting into their nine foot tall werewolf war-forms while climbing a fairly slender tree. Especially if there's four of them.

... playing a field trama expert in a vampire game and forgetting to buff their self control stats.

... summoning air elementals as a back-up parachute.

This happens all too often.

I am no longer allowed to run Call of C'thulu games where it slowly becomes apparent that all the horrors are actually pokemon.

- psykers are no longer allowed to taunt Khornite Daemon Princes

- surgically implanting high grade explosives in party members is not considered conflict resolution

- The Warworld no longer exists in the DC universe or any other

- The party medic must actually have some kind of medical skill

- Bicorne's are no longer allowed in combination with Terminator Armour

- While more appreciated than a bullet too the head, ass-less chaps are not regulation Commissar uniform

- When the botched ritual summons a demon, half the party is not allowed drop to their knees and worship it

- No longer allowed to start a fire at the only entrance of the cave to asphyxiate the kobolds rather than stumble around into their traps

- No longer allowed to hypnotize monsters into jumping into their own pit traps

- You can't enslave every monster you beat

- Prestidigitation can no longer be used to kill five kobolds at once

Not allowed to purchase saps at character creation for the purpose of beating the other PC's when they do something you don't like.

Players can only play characters of their own gender.
Awkward moment of my 400(ok probably closer to 360) lbs friend trying to play a sexy assassin.

42.7% of all statistics are made up on the spot.
If you can't fix it with duck tape you haven't used enough.

I also wish to know the answer to this. I would just be more excited when it came out. Also I would want to invent pokeballs. Cosmic horror in my pocket. :o

That's when a Call of Cthulhu game switches systems from either the O.R.E. path and you have a Monsters or Wild Talents game, or the D20 path and you have a D20 Modern game. That being said, I would be intrigued to see Pokemon done in Call of Cthulhu.
