Help with a one-shot Gurps Horror/Comedy...
« on: April 09, 2010, 02:45:41 PM »
Hey all,

I am pulling another drive by posting here, but I could use some outside help.

Working on a Gurps 4e Horror/Comedy one-shot.  Basically I am going for an 80's cheezy horror with some utterly stupid slapstick comedy (think Dead Alive or Bad Taste), PCs are stereotypical teens, the jock, the rebel, the slut, the nerd, the stoner, and the fat kid. NPCs - zombified townsfolk.  Ultimately, the pcs have to survive, clear the town of the living dead, rescue the townsfolk at the Agri-Fair, and make sure the tainted soda doesn't leave the loading docks (don't ask).  There are also some lesser game-extending tasks they need to complete before taking on the Zs.

I got the storyline basically fleshed out, and now working on NPC templates and town layout.  Where I am stuck is the comedy.  All I got right now is:

1. The jock has a disadvantage - the absolute fascination with breasts.  PC will have to roll against will to ensure they refrain from having debilitating erections and touching/grabbing/motorboating the woman in question (even if undead).

2. The stoner has a situational advantage where, when on some type of mind altering drug, the pc must come up with absolutely crazy plans and contraptions (tactics and gadgeteering), and has a temporary higher Willpower which raises their Enthrallment.  Basically this pc will most likely win influence rolls against the other pcs so they have to carry out his plans.

And that's pretty much what I have come up with so far.  I understand a lot of the comedy will be on the fly based on PC actions but I wanted to get some other ideas to liven up the game.

Thanks in advance

Go over the top with the NPCs and zombies - crazed survivalists who believe the Rapture has happened and shoot anyone who attacks the zombies (they're holy you see), a delusional businessman who wants to capture and sell the zombies to the government, a tour bus of swedish bikini models stranded and need rescusing (the twist is that they're quite chaste and will be quite offended if the PCs hit on them) and so on

Over the top action set pieces work too - golf cart chase scenes, dueling chainsaw battles and so on.

Well, let's see:

The jock, high athletics and stuck. Nobody likes the jock.

The rebel,

The slut,

The nerd,

The stoner, gets the advantage of additional immunity. Exposure to zombie crap doesn't effect this one the same way. Guts, blood, brains, all part of the trip. And any infection has to fight it's way through the crap already in the blood system. Takes twice the infection "amount" to bother to stoner it does anybody else. No perception skill. Hunger will become a major issue for this character, as well access to a stash. Advatage/disadvantage: knows alot of hidden places but all of them are dead ends.

The fat kid, since we're going with stereotypes, this dude needs to have some comic books and alot of extra food. There's an advantage for you: always has more food hidden. Make hunger an issue and give this one access to snacks. Weakness: fat kid, what more do you want really? Lower atheltics, lower stamina, lower overall health, lower speed, and they'll smell really bad. Stereotypes.

I'll add more as I think of new stuff.

I think that the models should be zombies or turn into zombies.

For the lolz.

Awesome Ideas!  I love the thought of zombie swimsuit models.  Also I like the idea of the Stoner having a high fearless level works well.

I was thinking that the fat kid would be a lot like Vern from Stand by Me or more like Chunk from Goonies.  I like the idea of empty food stashes for him.  The comic book aspect lends itself well only because I need to make one of the PC's the conspiracy/occult historian.   "Dude, they are cosmic radioactive zombies, I read all about them in Captain Atom #5" .

Great idea's, thanks.

The rebel should be based on Duane from Home Movies and of
Franz Kafka Rock Opera
fame. God bless you Brendon Small.

Quote
Duane (or Dwayne) (Brendon Small)—A metalhead of few words, whose band Scäb writes and performs the music for most of Brendon’s movies. Duane has essentially mastered the guitar and is presumably a multi-talented showman (in "Director's Cut," Duane wrote and starred in a rock opera based on Kafka's The Metamorphosis which Melissa said may be "the best thing we've ever done," and in "Renaissance," he and his band show mastery of advanced pyrotechnics). He did not speak during a portion of the early series (only singing or mumbling incoherently). His physical appearance is similar to that of Slash or Joey Ramone. Scäb’s songs are actually played by the show’s creator, Brendon Small. The spelling of his name changes throughout the series. Duane said he was 15 in "Guitarmageddon".
