Translation War.
« on: April 23, 2010, 05:48:29 PM »
Using this tool: http://www.conveythis.com/translation.php be sure to click on on Max translations from the drop down.

post some innocuous phrase or whatnot, and then post what it becomes. Example.

"Would you like to come to the party, the pants party, the party in my pants." Becomes "Development of bermuda"

If there are any stellar intermediary steps, post those as well.

"There are monsters in the school, Tom." becomes "Rakshastal name of the lake."
I didn't come here to win. I came to make friends.

"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua." becomes "Launch: How important is it to be published konsektetur adipisising eiusmod insididunt slantshoyd Magna said."

(Apparently the graphic designer in me is an asshole.)

Hmm, I'm afraid my innocuous phrase didn't become anything funny, but the translations themselves reveal a heartrending story of passing one's prime, trying to recapture the limelight, and finally sinking into obscurity.

I'm the best there is at what I do, and what I don't isn't very nice.
- Wolverine at his best
I'm not good at what I do and I'm not very nice.
- Suddenly, he has a moment of crisis about his abilities and existence
I'm not very good at what I do and I'm not very good.
- Shaken, he falls into a spiral and becomes redundant. And repetative. And redundant.
I'm not very well what I do and I'm not so good.
- This shock to his psyche critically affects his mutant healing power
I have to do very well and I'm not I'm not so good.
- Logan realises he can't fall behind, and looks to earn a living with hip-hop
I do well and I am not very good.
- Logan tries to recapture the magic, but can't quite get the catchphrase right
Well, I was not very good.
- Finally, he must admit his failure
Well, I did not go well.
Well, I is not good.
Well, not good.
- His mental faculties finally deteriorate....
Well, well.
Good, good.
Okay, okay.
Good, good.
Well, well.
- ...and he becomes a henpecked husband.

So sad. :(

What Shakespeare said:
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely, and more temperate!

What Shakespeare meant:
"Very good compared to my sister!"

Edit:
Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, and Summer's lease hath all to short a date

This is the perfect language compressor for twitter, like bit.ly for poetry!

"Role playing public radio"

...54 translations later we get:

"Public distribution system."

And a favored saying, which actually translates pretty cool:

"Fight me or Give me a Quest"

...54 translations later we get:

"Me or buy."

I cast magic missile into the darkness.
-> I threw a magic missile into the darkness.
-> Cast a magic missile into the darkness.
-> Cast a magic bullet in the dark.
-> Investing in the dark magic.

"Fuck yourself" goes from "With a hammer" to "Hammer" and then finally, "Ax". What the hell?

"Go fuck yourself" becomes "Paula".

"Help I am stuck in an internet factory." becomes "Help to paint a set of measures."

"Fucking magnets, how do they work?" becomes "Dumb and love, how does it work?"

"Frog Snatch" just becomes "Frogs"

"I had him raped by a bee queen." becomes "I know this is contrary to the Queen."

Not tonight baby, I have a headache.====> Not many people have been Presidents in the past.

favorites from the war:  There are many children without a head, in the past.
---------------------    We have enough heads without children, hurry up.
---------------------    We have no children, so there is no headache.
---------------------    No child today, and gives me headaches.

Citizens of tomorrow be forewarned (an evolution)

In order to warn citizens of tomorrow

We remind the audience tomorrow

Remember the reader to open

Please do not forget to open the drawer

And the final translation....

Open the disc tray.
