Best of Hulu
« on: February 24, 2010, 10:34:57 PM »
So my wife and I scan through Hulu looking for TV shows that we didn't know about and find interesting. Tonight, we stumbled upon ReGenesis, which is a fascinating Canadian bioterrorism (at least so far) show that combines the 24-esque split screen approach with some really nice characterization.

Here's the Hulu link: http://www.hulu.com/regenesis

I figured I started a thread so we can post other good TV series that are available online for free that people might be watching and find interesting for gaming/writing.

I loved this episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000, it was the first that I watched and (in my opinion) one of the best.

Giant Gila Monster

*There are also a bunch of MST3K on Google Video.  Legal?  I don't know, but it's streaming which falls that area that is very legally gray to me...

Canadian bioterrorism? Like tainted syrup or something along those lines? Turning the red leaf brown with plague?

More like Dutch elm disease, except it affects sugar maples.

Saw this thread and looked at my Hulu account.  I have 15 subscriptions, and that doesn't include the numerous movies or shows I've added to my queue (at one point I think I had a queue of 190-something)...

Hulu is great and terrible at the same time...

I refuse to use the queue for this reason. I'd much rather dig around and find something and watch all of it.

Well, actually what it was was I had added all 6 seasons of The A-Team along with the subscriptions (many fewer at that time) of the TV shows I normally watch but don't have cable for (namely Burn Notice, but there were a few others)...

Oh, and it has the Super Mario Brothers Super Show, and the Legend of Zelda Cartoon.  Not sure whether it puts Hulu in the awesome or terrible category for that...

I bought the Legend of Zelda cartoon on DVD a few years ago and maintain that it was one of the worst things I have ever watched. On every level, it was bad.

It was so bad that I sold it and I never sell anything.

I admit there is an anime on Hulu I want to watch. Has anyone seen: http://www.hulu.com/search?query=Death+Note

Or read the manga series?

Yea, it's pretty good. The suspense and drama is as catchy as one could hope for. There is a portion of viewers/readers that only like it up to a certain point, but you might as well watch/read the entire series.

Ross and I were discussing that earlier. How the author breaks the logic of the death notebook after awhile to aid the protagonist.

^ This.  I was originally intrigued by the concept of the show until someone spoiled this bit for me.  Maybe one day I'll go back and give it an honest go.

However, In terms of anime, I'm working on http://www.hulu.com/fullmetal-alchemist-brotherhood, but it is difficult when you watched the first run of the series dubbed, and watching many of the scenes again with the more grimdark tones gets a little bothersome.

http://www.hulu.com/trinity-blood# would make some degree of a badass RPG setting, but the series suffers from trying to establish too much to fast and not having enough time to flesh out all of the characters.  But still worth the watch, imho.

And there's also Bleach when I want to satisfy my need for over-the-top, DBZ with katanas violence.

Otherwise I just use Hulu to help me keep current on the few TV shows I happen to watch.

Monster is one of, if not my favorite anime series. It's a very faithful adaptation of the manga (The manga is 162 chapters, condensed into 74 episodes for the anime) and it has an intelligent and complex story, interesting characters and great pacing. I would recomend it to anyone who can see anime as more than mechas and catgirls.

EDIT: Actually, I just checked and this was the horribly dubbed version. If you can find the subbed version, I'd watch that instead.
Veoh has it.
