Most of Star Trek > empire strikes back > rest of trek> cat turds> the rest of Star Wars.

Why do you hate Star Wars? Just curious. I'm not particularly fond of it myself (neutral) so I'm wondering what your take on the series is, because most people seem to like it.

Don't worry Cody I agree with you, although my intense hatred of Star Wars is centered around the fandom itself. SW fans are so much worse then ST fans, mostly... That and Lucas made the greek tragedies fuck anime.

I actually saw the USS Lemuria the other day. Didn't realize it was something "real". Yay Wiki.
Just because you aren't drunk now doesn't mean you won't have a hangover tommarow.
The only thing worse then zombies is nanotech zombies that are immune to disintegration.

I know I shouldn't bring back this very dead thread, but I just read an essay by Chuck Klosterman called "Sulking with Lisa Loeb on the Ice Planet Hoth" and it says every single thing I have ever hated about Star Wars and more. It also analyzes "Empire" to the point of exhaustion, but it's really great stuff.

Here's a quote:

Star Wars has become one of the most overrated films of all time, inasmuch as it's pretty fucking terrible when you actually try to watch it. Star Wars's greatest asset is that it's inevitably compared to 1983's Return of the Jedi, quite possibly the least-watchable major film of the last twenty-five years

If you'd like to read this perfect essay (and many other from the author) either go by his book "Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs" or just go read it at your local Barnes and Noble.

I wouldn't pick someone so ineloquent and that makes spelling errors in his published essays as a bastion of your cause.

Three things:

1) Spelling and grammar is not indicative of intelligence.

2) There are such things as editors and their entire job is to make sure that published essays don't have spelling errors. If anything, I'd blame the editor on this one.

3) I was typing this from my book and I didn't proofread my post. The errors were mine and I fixed them. I apologize.

1)   That depends on your definition of intelligence. I would say that good spelling and grammar are indicative of intelligence as an intelligent person (I mean someone who is perceived to be above the average measurement of intelligence) would use the language as it was intended to communicate with others who also use the same language. By not using grammar and spelling as they were intended, you demonstrate that you either are incapable of doing so or you are deliberately not using them, which would indicate that you don’t care if someone understands your idea as it was intended to be presented. Those are not the actions of an intelligent person. A monkey is intelligent, but you would certainly not say it is as intelligent as a Nobel laureate.

2)   When two people perform a task such as publishing a finished product, both are responsible for any errors that end up in the final product (provided it wasn’t something that was outside of their control – such as a printing malfunction).

3)   Mistakes happen. At least you acknowledge that they can happen to you which sets you apart from most of the population.

Of course, the only reason I care so much about this is because you are knocking Star Wars.

Bazinga.

What about rain man, I bet his gramer and spelling was bad, are you saying he was not smart?

As for me, I hate gramer and spelling but enjoy math and science, (damn nerd), so I never payed attention in english class, and refuse to learn how to properly spell and use puncuation. Its all based off how lazy I truly am. Granted im not saying im a smart person, but I feel I can handel my own when it comes to things that require int checks. (damn nerd)

Rain Man was fictional.

People who live with Autism Spectrum disorders have varying levels of capability. It goes to what I mean when I state what 'intelligence' implies. Intelligence is used very broadly, which it is, but it is also used by people to refer to very specific things as well.

However, when people define what does and does not measure intelligence, they provide for others those very limitations that they state don't apply to them.

If you are great at math, but no one understands or can apply what you do, what benefit is there? How do you feel about getting someone's name right? Do you bother to try and say it the way that they do? What is the truest measure of intelligence?

If all intelligence measures is you capability to perform a single task at an adequate level, then everyone is 'intelligent'.

I've met a lot of people that are very 'book-smart' but couldn't hold a job because they aren't intelligent enough to show up on time for work. They can be the most intelligent unemployed person they want to be. If intelligence has no purpose in dictating your actions, then what does it really measure?

And the whole reason I got into this was because Tom was dissing Star Wars. De-railed.

Someone who writes for a living should be a good communicator.

Rain Man was fictional but based on a real person. Either way most people are not autistic, high-functioning or otherwise, so bringing that up as an exception to the rule is a bit of a weak point. I agree mostly with Malyss on this one. If a blog writer makes one or two grammatical errors it's not that big of a deal. But if it's rampant, unforgiving stuff then it speaks badly about that person as a credible author.

As Malyss stated, if you can not get your ideas across intelligently then you will be taken for an idiot. If someone is trying to inform me of a new cancer treatment and does so with the same grammatical and spelling errors you've just shown then I will ignore them. It is not a reflection of the idea they are trying to expouse but a reflection on the person themselves.
