anyone good at maptools?
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:41:44 PM »
Kinda want to do a simple informal game - GURPS based - focus on combat - start with 50 point bumfights and go from there

I've used it for 2-3 sessions, not sure exactly what you are asking about though.  Works great especially if you combine it with Skype or something and the players put in macros and stuff.

Well my idea is to run a PVP based game

Everyone makes at least one 50 point character. Then we fight them using all the hyper technical details of GURPS combat. With the typical RPPR style humor. Look at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/ to get an idea of what GURPS combat looks like.

Use http://sourceforge.net/projects/gcs-java/files/2009.01.01/gcs-2009.01.01.windows.zip/download to make a character.

If anyone had maptools scripts to help speed that up, that would be super.

Cool, I'd be down for trying to hop in on something like this if you are looking for players.  I've been meaning to try and check out GURPS for a while and this would appear to be a decent opportunity (since I would imagine I would be playing beside or at some point nearby someone who has played before)...

Never used MapTools but I love low point GURPS chars and will be willing to play. I own the basic set hard cover and martial arts PDF. Had a really fun fight involving flying rocket ninjas with P90s once.

If I have a wise old bum for a mentor can I take "Trained by a Master" so I can parry bullets with my shopping bag hat?

I should learn how to make a character.  Can anyone point me towards a tutorial of some type?

It's easy once you get the hang of it, but time consuming. I have a fairly decent 450pt Spartan template for Halo, took all day to make though. I can do a 150pt in about an hour, including equipment. Character assistant helps though.
