I believe there's a Selective power feat to do that sort of thing.

It's not really clear, it definitely focuses more on attack, but I would definitely grab it to be able to do so...

Not sure if you got my PM or not. Can you let me know if came through?

It came through. I'll respond tomorrow or saturday at the latest.

Sorry, to be clear guys. this is the thursday before finals week. My finals week is light, but i do have to get through this weekend. Once through the briar, we will move to the more specific character creation questions, and we can hammer these guys out pretty solidly.
My new goal in life is to play D&D with Judi Dench

I figured there wasn't a rush. I'm havin' alot of fun playing around. I've never built a utility character before so this is great.

Thanks for running this RJ. If anyone can tell me what power feats are I would be appreciative.

Thanks for running this RJ. If anyone can tell me what power feats are I would be appreciative.

A power feat is like a normal feat except that it applies directly to a single power.

There are some power feats that are near universal, like Precision, which allows you to use the power you take it for with more detailed control. If you want detailed control in two different powers than you have to take Percision in both powers.

Some powers have specific suggestions for Power Feats listed in their desciptions.

You can also make up your own and try to convince the GM to let you take them.

Like regular feats, power feats cost 1 Power Point. I'm not sure if this adds to the total cost of the power for purposes of determining point pools when using alternative powers. I've always counted it that way, not sure if it's right or not.

Oh, no worries.  I just wanted to make sure I wasn't falling behind and holding people up.  If we're going slower I ave no problems taking easy until we get it all worked out.

Alright, so far I've got the following planned out:

Density for increase muscle knotting and mass.
Create Object with Feedback to make things out of flesh and blood.
Additional limbs for the disgusting appendages that can be produced at will.
Elongation with the Action Extra to send my disgusting appendages all over the place in the blink of an eye.
Morph at 2 pts a rank for change into humanoid forms.
Supermovement to slither, swing, wall climb, and water walk.
Speed to run fast.
Trip with Knockback to knock people of their feet and then toss them around.
Snare to grab people in disgusting appendages.
Insubstantial at one rank to flow like horrible ooze.
And some Growth (with Strinking as an alternative power) to increase and decrease size.

That's about 90 points and my base stats are going to be pretty low so I might cut back to make sure I have enough for bonuses, feats, saves, and skills.

So how many points is a good rule of thumb for powers (i.e. total points to all powers)?

I know, awesome right? ;D

Since there's actually several different ways to get similar results using powers, straight points, or feats, it's hard to set firm number. For me, if over 3/4s of your points are going into powers you might be pushing it. Of course, your milage may vary. It's possible to play just about any character design. Like, if you have immunity to physical and energy damage than you don't need toughness very much.

Heck, my above character is probably close to 7/10s powers with skills soaking up a fair chunk. But that's the built I wanted to use.

With 135 points, I'd reconsider if you've assigned 80 or more.

It is pretty awesome. Does it come with a free fear effect? Or nauseate effect? :P

No!  >:( I have to pay extra for that. What a rip off, right?

Actually I could add "Area Nauseate at Rank 1 with Limited: Target must see subject" as a linked power to mechanically reflect it...

Okay so basically I've been looking at the life control ability and its alternative powers. What I'm thinking is just to link all of the life control alt powers into one of those linked arrays that share a pool of points that can be distributed.

Also, how to guns and weapons work in M&M. Are they like a skill because I can't really find one.

You pick it up and swing it (or shoot it).

Use your Base Attack Bonus and any modifiers. Typically you'll use either Melee or Ranged. If you bought your BAB up straight (2 points per +1) than you use that number whenever you attack, whatever you attack with.

If you specialized, like myself, with feats or other methods, than it plays out differently. I took alot of Attack Focus (melee), a feat that gives you +1 to either melee or ranged attacks. I took seven ranks in the feat for a total of +7 to melee (the maximum bonus for our power level). So, as long as it's melee, I attack at +7. However, anything ranged and my bonus is +0.

Most weapons have a damage value of their own. All guns do. Most melee weapons do. You can add strength bonus to melee attacks in most cases (I think) but you still hit the ceiling set by the campaign power level, regardless of the combination of weapon and person damage.
