the raw mp3s are 160 kbps and I convert them to 64 kbps. I also use compressor from final cut studio to maintain as much quality as possible and the highest quality encoding process takes a few hours.

Also I'm speaking from my own experience, not how Ross runs things. I record at 192 kbps and cut down to 64. (which is apparently wasteful, since Ross's recordings sound great) I tend to run slightly longer sessions than Ross, usually about 5-6 hours in length. I'm also a cheap bastard and use Audacity to do my compressing, which is not as streamlined as Studio, from what I understand.

compressor does a few extra things like filtering out sounds below 10hz and smart encoding adjustments to maximize final audio quality

See? Shit like that I don't bother with, because it doesn't come in the most popular free program. I will take the box wine, good sir. No need for a glass.

On a side note... what does cutting out <10hz noises accomplish? I was under the impression human hearing cuts out around 15-20hz. I'm guessing it just reduces overall noise, but I'm interested if there are any other side benefits.

I just like that Ross makes them so small. His files are half the size of mine (when of comperable length). I really need to get a compressor that works.

Dammit Ross, you are only feeding my desire for a Mac.  For now, I'll continue my use of WavePad Sound Editor.  I usually record in WAV 44.1khz and then save to 64kbs MP3.  I'm not sure if I have an additional compression option, but I'm not as fancy as Ross.  By they way, the king of England called and wants his audio equipment back.  Ours sounds fine enough though I think.  Though we did just have a 4 star review on iTunes because of "mic drops".  Our theory is it was the Rogue Trader game.  Always blame someone else for you inadequacy . . . TAD!

Speaking of which, though my laptop is still dying a horrible death by depervation my super awesome desktop finally accepted an audiocard so I can use my mike set in combination with a awesome processor and more dependable internet than my old location.

I'll just let my sultry voice to the rest.

It was a good day...Ross got to put Tom's character down again and almost killed him (again). Seriously, twice by monster and once by disease, this can't just be coincidence!

I looked at the AP site.

Dinner Party

With a Lich.

I haven't listened to it yet but every single named npc should be there.

All 200 of them.

Gonna listen to it tonight, I think this is when the Tenssion gets high between Watcher and other players, but I could be wrong.
