Game designers Luke Crane, Jack Graham, Tracy Hurley, Caleb Stokes, & Amanda Valentine solve your home campaign woes. Bring your questions; the Campaign Doctors will tell you the awful truth! This panel was recorded at Gen Con 2014.

News: Base Raiders is almost done. The books will be printed and shipped soon. There are new videos on the RPPR Youtube channel, including a new improv comedy with Thad.

Synopsis: If you have an unusual idea for a campaign setting, then it’s often better to take a toolkit game system like GURPS for the rules instead of building your own system for it. In this episode, Tom and I discuss the topic of world building, game systems, and picking the right game for your campaign. What rules match the important elements of your campaign? Find out in this episode. Also, instead of a letter, Tom has an improvised rant, plus shout outs and an anecdote.

Shout Outs

  • Outlast: Scary PC horror game in the vein of Amnesia. Investigate an insane asylum but don’t fall prey to the horrors that lurk within it.
  • Sense of the Sleight of Hand Man: An excellent open-ended Dreamlands campaign for Call of Cthulhu.
  • Accursed: A Kickstarter for a new horror RPG setting, where the PCs are all monsters who fight
  • I Drink for a Reason: A new comedy book from David Cross
  • Chivalry: Customization patch is the best patch. Sandwich knights for life!

Song: Darwins Video Game Domain by John Bura

News: If you’re a fan of Eclipse Phase, check out the Kickstarter for the next Eclipse Phase book, Transhuman. Don’t forget about the Know Evil Fan Creation Contest. The deadline for entries is May 10.

Synopsis: After the conclusion of Caleb’s epic Know Evil campaign, Tom and I wanted to hash out how the campaign came to be, what changed during play, and what lessons were learned from it. It’s not often a role playing campaign ends with such a satisfying conclusion, so we wanted to make sure you would have a ‘director’s commentary’ for Know Evil. We also have shout outs and anecdotes.

Shout Outs

  • Spaceteam: hilariously fun iOS game – command a spaceship with randomly generated controls and yell at your friends! A winning combination.
  • Elder Sign: New Cthulhu Mythos based dice and iOS game – like Arkham Horror but with more randomness and quicker pace.
  • Gloom – Edward Gorey meets card game strategy – the most miserable and dead family wins.
  • Rot and Ruin: YA horror novel series. It turns out life after the zombie apocalypse is not all that fun.
  • Prophet: Crazy ass science fiction comic. MEATPUNK.
  • Glory: Even Rob Liefeld original characters can be redeemed.
  • The Apple: A 1980 sci-fi musical biblical allegory. Hooray for Rifftrax!
